Bank holiday temperatures could hit 30c
Temperatures this bank holidaying Monday
could reach 30°. Yes. Later on today,
our correspondent Saja Chowry is with us
now. 30°. Um I mean that's hotter than
many parts of Europe.
>> Yeah. Well, I tell you what, one of the
coolest ways to keep that heat away is
to jump in the swimming pool. And more
than a thousand people are set to do
that today here at this Lido in
Southeast London. The pool is already
full of people. There's a kids pool as
well here which is uh also currently
quite jam-packed with swimmers and many
of them have been here since quite early
this morning. Some of them regular
swimmers who come no matter what time of
uh what day in the year it is, but
others who are here simply because they
say this is the best way to start off a
bank holiday Monday. Uh temperatures, as
you say, set to sore. The Met Office
says some parts of the UK will see
temperatures of 30°. Uh but most of the
UK is set to experience lots of sunshine
and temperatures of around 28 and 29
degrees and that is that makes it one of
the hottest if not the hottest uh year
on record uh in terms of the summers. Uh
those figures still being uh looked at
by the Met Office, but certainly what is
striking is the consistency of the
warmth. We've had very hot days in June
and July and also in August. And even
outside of the heatwave uh days, that
temperature has remained warm and that
has really lingered. They say that is
due uh to sort of high pressure systems,
the warmer seas around the UK and that
drier ground from spring that creates
that heat and lets it linger. But it's
not all fun and games. There are travel
ways for people who are uh going uh to
places or returning home after the bank
holiday on train services. uh but also
rain due to come later tonight across
parts of the west of England. So the
advice is to enjoy this uh the heat and
the sun while it lasts.
